In short
Some content opens only at a particular place — a venue, a store, a campus, an event. When you open it, the Linxy App checks your location once. If it says you’re not at the location, either you’re outside the area or your phone’s position is off, and the second is usually fixable in a moment.

What you’ll see
This opens at a location shows the place and a note that Linxy checks your location each time you open it, and that nothing runs in the background. Tap Check my location. The first time, your phone asks whether Linxy may use your location; it asks only at that moment, never when you install or open the app.
While it checks you’ll see Checking your location and how accurate the reading is. Then one of these:
- Location confirmed — the content opens.
- You’re not at the location — with the owner’s message. Try again checks once more; the owner may also offer See what’s available.
- Your location isn’t precise enough — your phone couldn’t get a close enough fix. Step outside or move near a window, and make sure precise location is on (below).
- Location is off on this phone or Location is off for Linxy — Open Settings takes you to the switch.
Opened in a web browser instead of the app, the browser asks to share your location and the same check runs.
The Linxy Tag option
Where the owner has placed a Linxy Tag, you may see Use the Linxy Tag here. Tap the tag with your phone, or scan the printed tag, to confirm you’re there. It’s the quickest way in when your phone can’t get a good position indoors.
Why your phone might be reporting the wrong place
| Cause | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Location is off, or set to approximate | Refused at once, or placed far from where you are |
| Indoors, in a basement, or among tall buildings | The reading is off by 100 feet or more, or drifts to a nearby street |
| A VPN or privacy relay is on | You appear to be in another city entirely |
| Airplane mode, or Wi-Fi scanning turned off | Slow to get a position, or none at all |
| The phone was just switched on or has traveled far | The first reading is slow and rough |
Fixing it, in order
- Allow location for Linxy, with precise location on. On iPhone that’s Precise Location; on Android, the precise option and Google Location Accuracy.
- Turn off any VPN or private relay. These make you appear somewhere else.
- Step outside or near a window for a few seconds, then try again.
- Move a little further into the area. Near the edge, ordinary accuracy can put you just outside.
- Wait a few seconds and tap Try again. Accuracy improves as the phone gathers signal.
If you’re sure you’re in the right place and it still refuses, tell whoever runs the venue or event; they can check the area and widen it.
What happens to your location
Your phone’s position is read only when you open the item; nothing runs in the background. Linxy keeps a record of each check: the position your phone reported, how accurate it was, whether you were inside, and when, linked to your account and phone. That record is not shown to the item’s owner, and Linxy does not track you between checks.
You can decline. The item won’t open, but nothing else in the app changes, and you can allow location later.
Symptoms, causes and fixes
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “You’re not at the location” while you’re there | A rough reading, often indoors | Step near a window, then Try again, or use the Linxy Tag |
| “Your location isn’t precise enough” | Precise location is off, or the signal is weak | Turn precise location on; step outside briefly |
| “Location is off for Linxy” | Permission was declined | Open Settings and allow it |
| It worked a minute ago and now refuses | Linxy checks every time you open it | Check again from where you are now |
