In short
A Pay, donate or tip block lets visitors pay you from your bio page with PayPal, a debit or credit card, Venmo, Cash App or Zelle. Set up your payment methods once in the Linxy App. Every Pay, Donate and Tip block on your bio pages uses them. With your PayPal email set up, visitors pay by PayPal or card right on your page, and those payments are recorded in the app and move your goal bar by themselves. Payments go straight to you: Linxy doesn’t hold any money.
On this page
Setting up your payment methods
- Open your bio page in the builder and go to Settings › Payment methods. You can also tap Edit methods inside a Pay, donate or tip block.
- Switch on each method you use and enter its details:
Method What to enter PayPal The email of your PayPal account. A paypal.me name also works, but then visitors leave for PayPal’s site, card payments on the page aren’t offered, and payments aren’t recorded in Linxy Venmo Your Venmo username, for example @YourName Cash App Your $cashtag Zelle The email or mobile number your bank uses for Zelle - Tap Save.
Apple Pay and LinxyPay are listed as coming soon. Neither can be switched on yet.
Adding a Pay, donate or tip block
- On the Content tab, tap Add a block and choose Pay, donate or tip.
- Fill in the fields:
Field What it does Type Pay, Donate or Tip. It labels the payment sheet Button text The button visitors tap, for example Donate. The chosen amount is added to it Amounts Amounts in US dollars. The first three show as buttons, with Other for any amount Default amount The amount picked to start with Payment note Sent with PayPal and Venmo payments, for example Spring cleanup fund Ways to pay Which of your payment methods this block offers - Tap Add block.
If some of the ways to pay you chose aren’t set up yet, the block editor says which ones. Those are left off the page until you set them up.
Showing a goal
For a fundraiser, fill in Goal (optional), Raised so far and Goal ends. The block then shows a progress bar, the amount raised out of the goal, and how many days are left.
Payments made online through PayPal (with a PayPal account or a card) add to the bar by themselves. Payments through Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or cash aren’t reported back to Linxy: add those yourself in Raised so far (added by hand). The bar shows both together.
What visitors see
- The visitor picks an amount (or taps Other and types one) and taps your button.
- A sheet opens with the amount and your ways to pay:
Choice What happens Pay with PayPal, Debit or Credit Card PayPal’s own buttons, right in the sheet. Visitors pay with their PayPal account or a card without leaving your page, and see a thank-you when it’s done. (With a paypal.me name instead of an email, PayPal opens PayPal’s site with the amount filled in) Venmo Opens Venmo to pay you Cash App Opens Cash App with the amount filled in Zelle Shows your Zelle email or number with a Copy button. The visitor pays in their own bank’s app. The sheet warns that Zelle payments can’t be reversed, so visitors should only send to people they know and trust
The sheet ends with Payments go directly to and your page name.
Payments made online
Open a Pay, donate or tip block. The Paid online panel shows the PayPal account that receives the money and what has been paid online. Tap See payments for the list: who paid, how much and when.
Refunds. Tap ⋮ on a payment and choose Refund. Linxy asks PayPal to send the money back. PayPal often doesn’t allow this for payments made straight to your account. In that case the app says Refund in PayPal first: refund the payment in your PayPal account, then tap I refunded it in PayPal. The payment is marked refunded and the goal bar goes down by the same amount.
PayPal and card payments start at $5 and go up to $10,000. Smaller amounts can still be paid with Venmo, Cash App or Zelle.
Button look
Every block with a button (links, Pay, donate or tip, PayPal Button, Connect with me, Offer and Form) has a Button look panel with a live preview:
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Style | Theme (the theme’s own button), Filled, Outline or Soft |
| Shape | Square, Rounded or Pill |
| Color | A swatch, or Any color for a 6-digit color like #E07A2E |
| Text color | Automatic, Black or White. Automatic switches to black or white so the text stays easy to read |
| Width | Full width, or Fit the text |
| Shadow | On or off |
The look applies to that button only. Use on all buttons puts it on every button on the page, and Use theme goes back to the theme’s look.
PayPal buttons. The buttons inside the payment sheet are drawn by PayPal and allow only PayPal’s colors (Gold, Blue, Silver, White, Black) and shapes (Rectangle, Pill). Choose them under PayPal buttons in the block.
The PayPal Button block
The PayPal Button block is a single button for one PayPal account, with its own PayPal email, button text and amount. It opens the same payment sheet, so visitors pay by PayPal or card on your page and the payment is recorded. With an amount set, visitors pay exactly that amount. An amount under $5 opens PayPal’s site instead of the payment sheet, and the payment isn’t recorded. Payments in US dollars use the payment sheet; other currencies open PayPal’s site.
Fees and good to know
- Linxy doesn’t process these payments or hold the money, and adds no fee to them. PayPal, Venmo, Cash App and your bank apply their own terms and fees.
- PayPal takes its fee from each payment you receive, as a percentage plus a fixed amount. On small payments the fixed part is a big share (on a $1 test payment, about half went to PayPal), which is why PayPal and card payments start at $5. Check PayPal’s fee page for current rates.
- Disputes are handled with the payment service, not with Linxy.
- Visitors who use the block can see your Zelle email or number, and your PayPal, Venmo and Cash App names are part of the payment links.
