In short
Every item in a playlist shows a thumbnail and a title. Linxy fills both in for you: for a video, three frames from the video with the clearest one picked automatically; for a web page, the page’s own image and title. You can choose a different frame, upload your own image, or rename any item.
On this page
Where thumbnails come from
| Item | Thumbnail | Can you change it? |
|---|---|---|
| Video | Three frames taken from different points in the video. The Auto pick is the clearest frame, skipping black or blank ones | Yes: another frame, or your own image |
| Web page | The image the page provides for sharing. A page with no image shows a globe tile with the Mark’s name | Yes: your own image |
| Photo | The photo itself | No |
| Audio | An audio tile | No |
Viewers see the thumbnail in the playlist and before a video starts. Frames for a newly added video take a minute or so; until then the item shows Being prepared.
Changing a thumbnail
| In the App | On the web | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Content & playback, the item’s more button, Change thumbnail | The Mark’s editor, Playlist section, the item’s Thumbnail choice |
| Choose a frame | Tap one under Frames from this video | Pick Frame at a time |
| Your own image | Upload your own, a photo from your phone | Upload image: a JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 15 MB |
| Undo your choice | Go back to Auto pick (videos) or Go back to the image from the page (pages) | Pick Auto pick or From the page |
| Save | Use this thumbnail | Update Linxy Mark |
If you never choose, Linxy keeps using the Auto pick for videos and the page’s image for pages.
Where titles come from
- Files are titled from the file’s name. The codes Linxy adds to uploaded file names are left out, so a file you uploaded as “Party Up (Up In Here).mp4” is titled Party Up (Up In Here).
- Files with no readable name, such as a camera’s number or a long random code, are numbered instead: Video 1, Video 2, Audio 1, Photo 1, counting each kind separately in list order.
- Web pages use the page’s own title.
Renaming an item
In the App, tap the item’s more button, then Rename, type the Title viewers see and Save. On the web, type in the item’s Title field and click Update Linxy Mark. A title you type always wins. Clear it to go back to the automatic title; for a page, that is the page’s own title.
Symptoms, causes and fixes
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No frames to choose from | The video was just added and its frames are being prepared | Check back in a minute, or upload your own image now |
| The thumbnail is a black frame | The video is dark at every point Linxy sampled | Choose another frame, or upload your own image |
| A page shows a globe tile | The page provides no share image | Upload your own image, or use Refresh from the page if the page adds one later |
| A title reads “Video 2” | The file name had nothing readable in it | Rename the item |
