Sharing a playlist

In short

Share a playlist with a link of its own. You choose who can open it, when it stops working and how it plays when someone opens it. Each share gets a new link, so different people can get different rules, and stopping one link leaves the others working. The playlist and its Mark or Dynamic Link stay as they are.

Where to share from

FromDo this
The playerOpen one of your playlists and tap Share next to its name. Share and Edit show only on playlists you own.
The playlist’s items screenIn Shared links, at the bottom, tap New share link. To reach the screen, tap Edit in the player, or use the more button on the Playlists screen (for a Dynamic Link, choose Items and sharing).

Who can open it

ChoiceWhat it means
Anyone with the linkPlays in the Linxy App or any browser.
Protected viewerPlays only in the browser that first opens it, with no download option. See How protected content opens.
Linxy App onlyOpens only inside the Linxy App. A browser gets a page asking to open the App.
Only people I inviteOpens only in the Linxy App, for the people you name by email, each signed in to their own account. Forwarding the link does nothing.

Only people I invite

  1. Choose Only people I invite.
  2. Type an Email address and tap Add. Add as many people as you like.
  3. Finish the other settings and tap Create share link.

Each person gets an email with the link and how to open it in the Linxy App. Someone without a Linxy account gets one under that email, and signs in without a password from the email. Anyone else who opens the link, including someone it was forwarded to, sees This playlist is only for the people it was shared with.

To add or remove people later, open the link with Change. Removing someone stops the link working for them; everyone else keeps it. In Shared links the link shows as Only people I invite with the number of people.

When the link expires

Choose Never (the starting choice), 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or Pick a date. A link works until the end of its last day: a picked date works through that whole day, and a timed choice is rounded up to the end of the day it runs out. The last working day shows in Shared links, for example Works through Nov 10.

How it plays when someone opens it

SettingWhat it does
Starts withOne at a time, Play all or Shuffle
ScreenAuto follows the way the phone is held. Portrait or Landscape holds it that way, for example for a display
Repeat at the endStarts over after the last item
Show the item listViewers can see and pick items
Viewers can change theseOff: it always plays your way
Pause between itemsFrom None to 15 sec, in Play all and Shuffle

These settings belong to the share link only. The playlist’s own Playback for viewers settings, and anyone scanning its Mark, are not affected.

Sending the link

Tap Create share link. Your share link is ready shows the link and a summary of its rules. Tap Send… to share it with any app on your phone, or Copy link to paste it yourself.

What happens when someone taps the link

On their phoneWhat happens
The Linxy App is installedThe link opens straight in the App and the playlist plays, with the rules you set.
No Linxy AppAnyone with the link and Protected viewer play in the browser. Linxy App only and Only people I invite show Open in the Linxy App, with an Open the Linxy App button and buttons to get the free App.

In the player, people tap the screen to show Pause, Next, Previous and Close. See the on-screen controls.

Changing or stopping a share link

Open the playlist’s items screen. Shared links lists each link with who can open it, its expiry and how many times it has been opened.

  • Change opens the same settings. Tap Save changes. The link keeps its expiry unless you choose a new one.
  • Stop sharing this link (inside Change) turns that link off. Anyone who opens it no longer sees the playlist. Your other share links keep working.

A share link plays the playlist’s items. When you add, remove or reorder items in the App, your share links follow.
