In short
Linxy App only keeps a Mark’s content out of ordinary browsers. Anyone who scans it with the Linxy App sees the content as usual. A browser, such as a phone camera scan, a tapped NFC tag on a phone without the App, or a shared short link, gets a page that says Open in the Linxy App instead, with links to the App Store and Google Play.
The setting covers the whole Mark, every item on it, with or without a playlist.
Switching it on
| In the App | On the web |
|---|---|
| My Linxy, the Mark’s sheet, Content & playback, Playback for viewers. Switch on Linxy App only and tap Save | The Mark’s editor, Playlist section. Tick Linxy App only and click Update Linxy Mark |
Switching it off again makes the content available to browsers at once.
What a browser shows
The browser shows Open in the Linxy App: the Mark’s content is available only in the Linxy App, so get the free App, then scan the Mark again. The page offers Open the Linxy App, Download on the App Store and Get it on Google Play.
Nothing from the Mark is sent to the browser: no titles, no thumbnails, and no file or page addresses. Every touchpoint of the Mark follows the same rule, because its short link, QR code and NFC tags all open through the same Mark.
When to use it
- Web pages whose address you do not want shown. The App opens pages with no address bar; a browser always shows the address.
- Content meant for the App experience, such as a playlist with background audio, that would be poorer in a browser.
- Content for younger viewers, where you want everything opened to stay inside the App.
Symptoms, causes and fixes
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Your own test in a browser shows Open in the Linxy App | Linxy App only is on | Working as intended. Test with the App, or switch the setting off |
| Viewers say the Mark “does not work” | They scanned with the camera, not the App | Tell them to scan with the Linxy App, or switch the setting off |
| The App still shows the content after you switched the setting on | Working as intended: the App always shows it | None needed |
