Your scan history

In short

Everything you scan is saved in the App so you can get back to it without the object. You can search it, filter it, mark favorites, delete single entries, or clear the lot.

The one thing to understand before you rely on it: this history lives on your phone, not on the platform. It does not follow you to a new device, and clearing it is not recoverable from anywhere. The one exception is favorites: favoriting a Mark also saves it to your Linxy account, where it appears on the Marks tab of My Linxy.

What it is for

The whole point of a physical touchpoint is that you do not have to keep it. You scan the label on the boiler, the card from the trade show, the tag on the garment, and the object goes back where it came from — or in the bin.

History is what makes that safe. The entry stays after the object is gone, so the manual, the contact, the care instructions and the warranty page are all one list away. Because the destination lives on the platform rather than in the entry, an owner who updates the content later means your saved entry opens the new version, not a stale copy.

Where it lives, and why that matters

Your phone the list of what you scanned titles and types the whole history stored here and nowhere else The platform the destinations themselves the owner's interaction data no copy of your list nothing here restores your history opens A new phone starts with an empty list. Nothing is lost from the platform — but nothing comes back, either.
The dashed arrow only points one way, and that asymmetry is the whole design. Keeping your history on the device means the platform never holds a record of everything you have ever scanned, which is a real privacy gain. The cost is exactly what the amber bar says. Treat anything you would hate to lose as worth saving somewhere else too.

Finding things again

Three ways in, and they combine well:

  • Search across the entries by name or description — the fastest route when you remember roughly what it was.
  • Filter by type to narrow to one kind of thing.
  • Media views to bring together the videos and other media you have scanned, which are the entries people most often return to deliberately.

Entries are titled with whatever the owner gave the Mark. Well-named Marks make your history readable; badly named ones leave you with a list of near-identical rows, and there is nothing you can do about it from your side. It is a good argument, if you make Marks yourself, for naming them as if a stranger has to find them again in six months.

Favorites

Marking an entry as a favorite pins it out of the general flow. This is worth doing at the moment you scan rather than later, for the things you know you will want repeatedly — the appliance manual, the medication leaflet, the site induction, the door you have to check in at every week.

A favorite is still an ordinary entry in this list: it can be searched, opened and deleted like any other. What is different is that favoriting a Mark also saves it to your Linxy account, so it appears on the Marks tab of My Linxy and follows you to a new phone. Deleting the entry or clearing history removes it from this list only; to remove it from your account, unfavorite it on the Marks tab.

Removing entries

ActionWhat goesRecoverable
Delete one entryThat row, from this phoneNo. Re-scan the object if you still have it
Clear historyEvery row, from this phoneNo, and it is not undoable
Uninstall the AppThe whole local storeNo
Clearing history does not clear anything on the other side. The owner's record that a scan happened is theirs, is separate from your list, and is unaffected. If your concern is what the owner can see rather than what is on your phone, the relevant controls are your Connection's sharing settings — not this list.

What it is not

It is not…Because
A backup of the contentIt stores a pointer, not the page, video or document behind it
An offline copyOpening an entry needs a connection, as the original scan did
The owner's analyticsDifferent data, different side, different purpose
A list of your ConnectionsConnections are a separate thing entirely and live in their own place
Synced between your devicesIt is deliberately local. There is no account-level copy to sync from

Things people commonly get wrong

“My history is in my account, so it will be on my new phone.”It is on the device, and only there. Assume a new phone starts empty and plan accordingly.
“Clearing history hides my scans from the owner.”Their record is separate and untouched. Different concern, different control.
“A saved entry works offline.”It stores a pointer, not the content. Save the document itself if you need it in a basement.
“Clearing history removes my favorites.”It clears this list, but a Mark you favorited stays saved to your account. Find it, or unfavorite it, on the Marks tab of My Linxy.
“The entry changed, so something is broken.”Owners are meant to be able to update where a touchpoint leads. That is the feature you scanned it for.
